Why this exists
The Experiment
The Cube is 9,234 small cubes in nine layers around a center. Each one is sold once, to one person, and then it is theirs. This page is the reasoning behind that: what the rules are, why they are strict, and what has to happen before anyone sees the middle.
01Almost nothing you leave online survives
Everybody wants to leave a mark. Very little of what people put on the internet is still there ten years later. Accounts are closed, by the people who made them or by the companies that held them. Platforms are sold, wound down, or one day just stop loading. Posts are rarely deleted — they are buried, pushed under by a feed whose only job is to show you something newer.
None of that is a malfunction. It is what the internet is for. The cost of putting something up is nothing, and things that cost nothing are treated accordingly: by the platforms that store them, and eventually by the people who made them.
The Cube is a counter-proposal, made on purpose and made small. 9,234 cubes. Each one bought once. Each one stays exactly where it is.
02The object
Twenty-one cubes wide, twenty-one tall, twenty-one deep — 9,261 cells. The middle 3×3×3 block, 27 of them, is fused into a single Master Cube. The other 9,234 are sold one at a time.
A cube has an address and never leaves it. It is not relisted when its owner loses interest, there is no second edition, and no cube is sold twice. You take one, you put something of yourself on it, and it is still at those coordinates when you come back.
There is no account to make, and there never will be. Nothing to follow, nothing to like, no notifications, and no feed deciding who gets shown your cube. It sits where you put it and waits to be found.
You decorate it before you pay for it. Choosing a cube holds it for fifteen minutes, which is time enough to write on it and see it in place on the object. Money only moves once you are happy with what is on it.
03Why the layers are locked
Only the outer layer is open. Layer 2 opens when layer 1 has sold out completely — not nearly, not ninety-nine percent. The last cube of a layer counts for as much as the first, and until somebody takes it nobody goes deeper, however much they are willing to pay.
This is the part that makes it an experiment rather than a shop. There is no way to buy in early, no queue to skip, no bundle that opens layer 5 for one determined person with a card. 2,402 strangers have to finish the skin before the 1,946 cubes underneath it exist for anyone at all.
Nobody gets deeper alone. Whoever ends up on layer 9 got there because thousands of people they will never meet each took one cube on the way in. Reaching the center is a collective act, and it is the only thing here that cannot be bought.
Which also means it may not happen. The cube can stall on layer 3 and sit half-open for years. That is a real outcome and it is not being hidden — an experiment with one possible result is not an experiment.
04Deeper costs more and holds more
Layer 1 costs €1. Every layer inward doubles it, down to €256 at layer 9. What the money buys is not a bigger cube — it is one more thing you are allowed to leave on it. Each layer adds exactly one capability the layer above it did not have, and keeps everything that came before.

Those prices are for a cube in the middle of a face. From layer 2 inward, what you leave is bound to the faces that point outward, so an edge cube costs twice as much and a corner three times — you are buying two surfaces, or three.
The last two layers are the only ones that reach outside the object. Layer 8 has what was written on it republished in the registry, and layer 9 has the name of whoever wrote it printed beside the words.
05The center
One cube at the heart of it, 3 times the size of every other, made of the 27 cells nobody can buy on their own. There is one of it, and there will never be another.
It cannot be bought until all nine layers are finished — every one of the 9,234 cubes around it sold. Until then it is visible and unavailable, which is the whole of its function.
The Master Cube
€100,000, stated rather than hidden behind an inquiry. It is the ceiling the rest of the object is measured against. If it is ever sold, the experiment is finished and it worked.
06Being straight about it
It is a website. Permanence here means a row in a database, files in storage, and a domain somebody keeps paying for. That is a promise made by something small on the internet, and it is worth what you judge that to be worth.
It is not an investment. Nothing here is built to be worth more later, and the price ladder is a rule about depth, not a forecast. Take a cube because you want the cube.
A cube changes hands once. What you put on it you can come back and change; who it belongs to, you cannot.
Nothing is reviewed before it goes up. What you write is published the moment you save it, every cube can be reported, and what happens after that is a person reading the report.
Layer 1 is open. €1, no account, and fifteen minutes to decide what it says.
